Williams was a political science professor at the University of Utah for over four decades. He taught a whole generation of students, including Carl Rove, who was the mastermind with George W. Bush's campaign. In 1966, he wrote a private memo called Operation Checkmate,. And he sent it to each of the members of the Quorum of the Twelve in the First Presidency except Ezra Taft Benson.
