The Importance of Local Societies in the 21st Century
I love the idea of a Mediterranean and an ancient world that's full of multitudes that is comprised of local societies because most people's lives are local. And I think there's also sort of intellectually a really interesting discussion to be heard about when do we start using local and no longer determine indigenous or how does that change as well? You see continuities over those centuries, although at the same time things change incredibly. It's possible for places to fall out of the networks or for population density to fall. That's not always how things work.
