I think that it be universalizable that something that has sentimental value to you really doesn't have value at all. There's so much more meaning to what you're getting out of having that bike than that particular conversion of it to saving you money on gas. I think the same thing's true of the notion of usefulness. That seems to me in accord with what Deborah is saying about the social ways in which one would value something that have been attenuated by capitalism but are not useful.
