The Roman Empire and the Alphabet

In the 100s AD, the Roman authorities add two letters to the alphabet. The Romans partly interact with the Atruskins by conquering them and then building a huge empire. However, there are difficulties because the alphabets don't quite line up. "I love the idea of like waking up and your spouse is reading the paper and they're like new letters"
