He also had English allies, and it turned out that what William had bought off with bribery was just a portion of the Danish fleet. So if you're Swain, what do you do? I mean, he was all in on this invasion. And now he was here in person, with his son. The Northumbrians did in fact welcome King Swain. But despite all of that, rather than rushing off to war, the fleet stayed in the Humber.
