Stuff You Should Know
00:00
The Herring Illusion
The brain tries to predict what, what is should come next based on what we're used to seeing in real life. Some of the optical illusions are actually reliable ways to trick the brain into making the wrong decision. So with these radial lines that we see, tell our brain, oh, we're moving and we're moving towards this vanishing point in the distance. But the thing is, is they're not moving because it's a static image, but it's the brain being tricked into thinking we're moving forward and changing our perspective unnecessarily.
