People who speak the same language don't inherently get along, and often find ways to hate on each other for speaking different varieties of a language. Australia is very linguistically homogeneous but when there's state based or city based linguistic variation in australian english, we just lose our collective shit over it. One war that kind of flames up every few years is something known as the potato cake, potato scallop. In new south wales and queensland are they're known as scallops, or potato scallops.
