A Brief History of Microorganisms in the Air
Pasteur proved that it was not necessary to insist upon hermetic ceiling or cotton filters to keep these living organisms in the air from gaining access to a flask of infusion. He further proved that no spontaneous generation was possible, and that the atmosphere contained unseen germs of life. The final refutation of the hypothesis of spontaneous generation was followed by an awakened interest in the unseen world of microorganic life.
