In June of 2022, city council voted down legislation authorizing the mayor to close the jail. Then plans came out in early August that instead of closing ACDC Fulton County were in talks to rent 700 beds from the facility to Fulton County. Actives warned that the lease would not alleviate these issues and that city council needed to instead focus on the decarceration. And then there was an ACL new report that found 45% of the overall jail population in Fulton County is unindicted.
