The movie was supposed to be like $12 million. It was 31. John Millius wrote the screenplay because his college English professor, Erwin Blacker at USC, said no screenwriter has ever perfected a film adaptation of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness. There's this kind of click of guys who all knew each other. I think there's more of a statement about soldiers and war than it is about Vietnam.
