Is 2% the Ideal Rate for Inflation?
Everyone thinks that inflation is about to reduce, but few reckon it's going to make it all the way back. This raises the question, why is 2% held as an ideal rate for inflation? I put this to the veteran economist and now the president of Queens College, Cambridge, Muhammad L. Ariane. He says: The 2% target is totally arbitrary. It started in the 1990s with the central bank in New Zealand. And somehow it became the target for countries with very different circumstances. So what's desirable is a slightly higher inflation target, but it's not feasible.
