The Importance of Strong Prides in Social Science
The most important thing is to have weak prides. We all have these hunches and we have those ideas and we tend to look forever. So that influences the kind of research of what we pay attention to. What I do when I start studying in New Region is I tend to read a general introductory history book. That helps me understand the broader context in which things happen. It's basically like making a 3D jigsaw. You just put it all together and then doing the comparative stuff. He who only understands one country, understands no countries.
