When you reduce everything to mere mathematical, materialist logic, you turn yourself into an animal. Why shouldn't i kill one person if it'll you don't make everyone better? Because it is an palling atrocity and an offence against god. And man, thou shalt not commit murder in cold blood. In our natural feelings, we learn great lessons. Our weak, unthinking pride is bled under the dispensations of a mysterious wisdom. There is a mysterious wisdom contained in your natural affections, your natural inclinations and desires. This is the old, ancient greek way of saying this, loving what you should love, and hating what you should hate.
