The comic code was created in the 50s to protect against violence and crime. The guidelines were written by psychiatrist Dr. Wortham, who Stan Lee fought with for much of his early career. "Dr. Wortham was a fanatic, pure and simple," says former Marvel Comics editor-in-chief John Sutter.
