We are experts at lying to ourselves about ourselves. New year's resolutions are the best example of this. There is a benefit to even the most sub optimal behavior, or we wouldn't do it. But it's so much easier to just go straight through by doing this and saying it, than avoiding it. We get stuck because we're not being honest with ourselves, about ourselves.
