I don't know if it's totally true that he had the same attitudes towards a user rights and freedoms that we had. In this case, i think he did divorce himself from the power of the project. He seems to have made a decision prior to his departure that meets that criteria. Therefore, maybe he isn't someone who was bias towards a sort of free market type activities. Maybe he was more willing to make sacrifices so that eque could be widely used.
