Hitchcock arrived in America after a decade, almost two decades directing in England in 1940 He made the triumphant Oscar-winning Rebecca in 1940. In between he made this movie and told Francois Truffaut that he did it as a friendly gesture to Carol Lombard She was very passionate about the script He accepted in a weak moment So there were a lot of factors, he did have a contract with RKO, he had to deliver two movies Money, of course, as a factor as always.
