The Second Stage of Modern Fashion
The French philosopher Jules Povetzky has said that modern fashion has had two distinct phases. In the first stage, we routinely chose fitting in over what was most flattering to us. That first stage lasted from the mid 19th century through the 1950s. But then the 1960s hit and they bring the second era of modern fashion. And for the first time, young people don't want to look like old people. It's now such a given that it feels silly to even say.
