Bob Greene: My father was an English professor at an all-male boarding school in Virginia. He had this study that he was often inside of, and on the door, it had a sign that said, bless this mess on it. And as a kid, I would have to go or would be sent down to my dad's study and had to knock on the door. It was a room that was two walls of books, kind of floor to ceiling,. A big desk that was covered with books, there were books everywhere. The physical presence of books was something that really was strong in my mind as a kid.
