The Importance of Ethics in Speculative Methods
Ethics is something that comes up a whole bunch in this book, as you say not just in relation to research but also teaching. Working with students produces a whole different set of ethical issues which I would argue are largely to do with the fact that although students may have signed up for a particular course or a program they haven't necessarily signed up for the sorts of speculative engagements that can come through this kind of work. And then there's this question of balancing risk and responsibility. So it might be fun to do these kinds of engagements so making futures has effects for participants and readers and for ourselves as researchers and educators too. We really have to be ready to respond to things that happen.
