Racial Disparities and Health Inequities in Kidney Injury
Urine output defined AKI is very poorly recognized because it can be a little bit trickier both to measure urine output, but also just to pay attention to it as well. One of the really challenging confounding factors here is that babies who are Hispanic or who are Black are more likely to be born at low birth weight or preterm than babies who are not. And so we know that food insecurity and maternal nutrition actually plays a role, at least in animal models.
