Demagoguery and the Enlightenment Views of Government
I don't think any of the enlightenment thinkers thought themselves of doing that. But just one of the general implications of enlightenment views of government is that what we care about primarily is getting better results. And so what I try to show in the book is that that perspective can be applied to demagoguery as well. We can think about it not as moral vice, not as corruption, but as one of many different tactics of democratic politics that can be leveraged for different causes deployed in different ways.
