The Life and Times of Mo Ash
Mo Ash wanted to record what wasn't already being documented, music local to the communities around him. He vowed never to try a hit record; every time he got close to a hit he found someone who could buy the masters from him and they could make the hit. Mo would pay artists a small fee up front. In the words of jazz pianist Mary Lou Williams, Mo gave artist so much freedom,. if you only burped, Mo recorded it.
