Is There a Relationship Between Smell and Art?
Ellie: My first boyfriend in college wore Tom Ford's black orchid, which was an iconic perfume at the time. Things did not end well. I remember a couple of months after we broke up going to my local mall and smelling it and running, fleeing from Sephora in tears. Ellie: This is a really good example of what Kant means when he says that smells cannot be objects of aesthetic appreciation. If you wanna be a good philosopher of art, you have to be cool and collected and above all, unemotional.
