The Town Cries of Bombay

The harbor was the most arresting sight in Bombay of the mid-19th century. Ships with two sails were called do-doli-bhahans. Arab vessels were called hao. The ships from Kathya War were called Fatimas, pros or battleas. These were smaller native vessels and moved inside the harbor area. They helped in offloading goods from larger ships. Do remember the modern steamboats and patrol boats were still decades away.
