I can partially agree with Darren because I do think it is hugely important that we don't treat public investment like one big monolith. So I'm very heartened to see Rachel Reeves' plan for example to have an ambitious, muscular active state trying to shape the economy towards good outcomes. There's quite a traditional way of thinking about borrowing which is that it should only go on roads and hard infrastructure. And why on earth would that be restricted to things built with bricks and mortar?
