The Problems With the PhD System
Freeman Dyson: The PhD system is doing a lot of harm. I've had three disasters in my own career where people suffered mental breakdowns and two ended up in mental institutions. It's come to be a kind of union card for anyone who does any kind of teaching job, he says. "I'm one thing I'm not as a doctor," the scientist adds.
