When we read for pleasure, let's ask ourselves what is the author doing that's so good? I've done this all my reading life and you can too. It's a great way to learn the craft of writing fiction. Mary Higgins Clark describes another character as disguising herself with a stiff carapace in her novel While My Pretty One Sleeps. Note how the dialogue and action are woven together.
