How Rules' Ideas Can Help Transform Capitalism
The first priority for reforming our economic system has to be to tackle the climate and ecological emergency that we face, while there's still time to avoid the very worst consequences. I think each of us has a profound moral responsibility, not just to change our individual behaviour, but to take political action so that our governments recognise the gravity of this crisis. The second topic I want to touch on is how rules' ideas can help us transform or even transcend capitalism as we know it. There's a growing consensus that inequality has reached unacceptable levels in our society. What we get from Rawls' difference principle gives us a much more precise and also strongly egalitarian definition of shared prosperity.
