In the 90s, there was kind of like this portal thing with Yahoo and Exite and Infosyq. And they all just offered the exact same product more or less. I wanted to make something that was actually better than a desktop application, but that lived on the web. So Gmail version zero started with a previous project that I had was just finishing up on which was the original Google Groups.
