By the first century BC, there was a conflict within Judea between creditors and debtors. A group of scholars wanted to get rid of everything in the Jewish Bible that called for debt cancellation. Jesus was one of these people who wanted to restore the Jubilee year. The church essentially changed its doctrine and became a force for oligarchy.
