China's Engagement in Africa - What's the Takeaway?
The more China's engaged on the FDI side in Africa that actually it creates a negative image of China in the eyes of African citizens, is that the takeaway? I would think the takeaway from just looking at China would be that it doesn't have the payoffs for China and China's reputation that we often assume. And even though we are saying this isn't about buying influence in Africa, the takeaway line for at least the most of the media was US seeking to buy influence in Africa by increasing investments. So you may not get from increased foreign direct investment in Africa by American companies, may not have payoff for U.S., as we hope it may.
