The world rightfully celebrates the birth of Martin Luther King Jr. Yet virtually no one has stopped to consider who else was in that room on January 15th, 1929. Alberta Christine Williams King is often erased from our shared knowledge and understanding because she doesn't fit this more patriarchal notion of who the heroes and leaders of our stories are. It's time that we give her her due and we celebrate her influence not only on her son, but on our entire world.
