The Value Alignment Problem in AI
All or nearly all of the fear around what AI might do in the future when it has enough power stems from the fact that it doesn't have feelings. Genies and AIs do not have empathy for us and so make decisions that can be literal but harmful. And yet the goal of AI has always been to create a companion. If you want to make a computer scientist uncomfortable, ask them how AI could feel.
