Can You Explain Anti-Immigration Sentiment?

There is some anti-immigration sentiment. Can you explain it maybe on the fact that the American feel that the children of immigrants are overtaking some important positions in society ahead of them? And they feel left behind? Well, I think that's possible. It's not that I want to shy away from that explanation, it's just that I don't have really good evidence either in favor of it or against it.
