The Cost of Higher Wages in the Transport Sector
The typical hourly wage for warehouse staff has increased by just elevenpence since march. Super markets have been relatively profitable during the pandemic, so they may be able to absorb more of the additional costs of higher wages. In some other sectors, though, it all takes time, many months, to train and to qualify new drivers to do the job. Paul morgan is a lorry driving instructor in wales. He says despite lots of applicants, the red tape is making it impossible to train them up.
