Conservationists Need Indigenous Knowledge

When incorrectly grouped together as one species, the trees were assessed as near threatened on conservation watch lists in 20 17. But splitting the wild pilan and cultivated lumo trees into different species could well see the estimated numbers of both decrease dramatically. And perhaps they ere more threatened than we thought. This study opens up important questions about other species of flora and fauna. What other plants, insects and animals could we be classifying wrongly? And could they be fighting a silent battle against extinction, hidden in plain sight?
