There were so many resurrectionists active that sometimes theyd dig up a grave only to learn that another team already took the body. One popular method of retrieval was to dig a hole at the head of the coffin, break the top open and use a rope to pull the corpse out. Iron coffins also became increasingly popular. There are recorded cases of women posing as grieving relatives to the deceased to collect their bodies prior to burial. Or they would attend funerals to take notes of the graves location and any security measures that were installed.
