Pregnant women are hyper coagulable pretty substantially, and it gets worse post partem. A pregnant woman exists in a state of compensated respiratory alcalosis that's normal for pregnancy. She has to breathe off that c o two in order to have a lower co two level then her baby. So if you have a pregnant woman who's in the i c u needs to be ventilated, mechanically ventilated, you're going to be increasing your titl volume by about forty%.
