Prayer is an act of practical reason. It's a moment in this contemplative effort in which we pause to propose that god does something. In the discourse on law, god gives us commands and tells us as his we are his subjects. This is a good thing. He points us toward certain things and away from others through divine law. We're actually invited to do this prayer's a kind of petition.
