Wabanaki Basket Making
Wabanaki people have been making baskets from black ash, birch bark and sweet grass for thousands of years. Richard is a tribal elder and vice chief of the aroustic band of micmacs - one of five tribes that make up the wabanaki confederacy in maine to day. Their ancestors have been in maine since the glaciers receded 12 thousand years ago. Basket making is the oldest art in the northeast.
