The Convict by Schusterkovich
Schusterkovich sets the text with just two flutes, and timpani rumbles its warning underneath. The song is about an early morning execution, and while it was a revolutionary song sung in 1905, it was also sung in Stalin's gulags. Think for a moment though of how unachronistic this symphony was, in the context of other music being written in the late 1950s.
