The Alabama sturgeon has been on the verge of extinction for over a decade and now scientists are trying to determine if they can save it. We sent reporter Ashley Cleek to the swamps of Alabama Which is actually one of the most biodiverse places on earth to look at what happened to the fish. Steve Ryder, biologist with the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources cares about eels and fish more than most people in this state. He loves science and biology and regularly throws around words like Poda mydremus which only migrates in freshwater.
