Game of the Year - Best Direction Nominations

Best game direction is death loop. It takes to reternal psychonots to ratchet and clenkrift apart, resident evil village. So if a director has full control over every decision that happens, why is there a best picture? And it makes even less sense because if you were going to say, oh, from the game of the year games, what are the ones that i would nominate for best direction? Metry dread in resident evil village would be on the top of that list. That's where i feel like there's a real sense of pace.
