Children's literature can re introduce us to the wonder of the world. Nonsense verse takes reality and turns it upside down, so that when it comes right side up again, you can see it again as if it were new. We've forgotten what chesterton calls the ancient instinct of astonishment that we felt when we were children looking at the world. And through familiarity some lustre has worn off.
