Is There a Speed of Influence?

There are scholars who I think would broadly call realists to look at that set of risks and return to some version of spheres of influence as a solution. That does seem in some ways like a logical solution to the recipe you described, but it's I think repellent for lots of other reasons. A speed of influence is where one great power basically says to another, I am not willing to challenge you. The costs of me intervening here are too high, and I'm not willing to bear those costs. And so I think from that point, if you write Ukraine is actually a very clear example of spheres of influenced practice.
