How Do We Control Ourself?
We normally think of ourselves as system two, we're identified with what we think consciously. When you generate a thought, like computing 17 times 24, you are the author of that thought. We feel some pride in things that just occur to us and happen to us but the idea that it was produced deliberately is a marker system too. Many of us have an illusion that there is no reasoning behind the thought. There is another process which they'll call an associative process in memory.
