CHAPTER

Is It Morally Justifiable to Help?

Is there a moral difference in killing one innocent person to save ten, and killing ten thousand save a hundred thousand? Even if you think both are wrong, is the moral analysis the same? You're always saving ten times the amount of people that you are harming. The number of people harmed will always be ten percent of those ose helped. When considering whether it is morally justified to help, does the actual number of people involved make any difference? For example, does it make a difference if you are helping ten people by harming one person, rather than helping a hundred thousand people by harming ten thousand people?
