How Are Particle Colliders Built?

The first particle accelerators were constructed back in the 1930s. Cyclotrons were basically circular rings around which electromagnetic fields were used to propel particles like protons or nuclei. The faster you can get the particles moving, the more energy they have to be released. Through these particle collisions at our experiments, we're peeking into the hyperactivity of the very early universe.
