I don't know whether it had to do with my upbringing. I grew up Catholic and then when I was a teenager, 13 years old, I left the church and became an evangelical Christian. So for me, I've never really struggled with that issue. European evangelicals have a much different take on this question than American ones. But if you look at some of the early American evangelicals when they first confronted evolution, they were very much open to theistic evolution.
